Daughter

If I had a daughter
I would hold her in my arms and
Sing to her
As she cooed softly
Cover her with kisses
Adore her

Giggle like a child with her,
And watch in wonder
When she began to steal
Her allotment of steps from this world
Whisper in her ear
Words of love

Which she would learn to repeat
And with these words
Words of malice and animosity
Then the steps she took
Would be away from me
A fire would be lit in her eyes
Of passion
She would turn back to me
As if returning to my arms
Then stoop down
And use her fire
To burn the bridge between us

Watch it smoke and flame!
The reds, oranges, and grays
Mixing together in a locrian symphony

Oh, if my womb is to bear children,
Grant me only sons!
