Discovery of the Not-So-Distant Future

Upon looking into the not-so-distant future,
Upon peering forward and seeing
The woods, the groves, the pools
Of sparkling crystal water
And upon falling in love with all that lay ahead,
Growing attached and whatnot,
Dreaming of bathing my naked body
And drying out under the pure sun,
Then climbing into a tree
And sleeping curled in its green boughs,
I gathered up what little courage I possessed
And stepped towards what I saw
And discovered it was but a mirage.
